I was really excited when I found out we were reading Mafalda for this class because I know my parents used to really enjoy these comics back in the day. I really like the fact that the author uses the point of view of a little girl to examine many issues because it gives it a different approach than we are normally used to. Aside from being a fresh approach, it also helps add a lot of comedy to the small stories.

I think Mafalda is great at representing the way that children can always throw adults completely off by asking the most unexpected questions, but I also like the unexpected ways in which the parents choose to deal with her questions. I think this is one of the things that adds so much humour to the text. My favourite of all was when Mafalda asks her mother wh her baby brother Can not Be Delivered via jet, and she goes back to Miguelito Saying, "My mom is right Miguelito, the hell we want to save time a baby who will not have anything to do all day?"

So far I like what I read in The Alchemist. I feel that the plot is very easy to follow and I find that the book has me bored. May be considered bad because it is written in a very simplistic and does not seem a very profound book. The sentences are short and the vocabulary is not very advanced. At the same time, the characters are not well developed, for example, while the pastor is the main character, the author does not tell us much of his personality other than that is a pastor who likes to travel and pursue his dreams.
Despite these characteristics that can make a book is bad, I can not deny that I'm enjoying it a lot. Although the idea of "follow your dreams" is a very typical in the literature and in movies, always something that leaves me feeling in a positive way. The other day in class when we talk about Eva Luna talked about how there are many characters that seem irrelevant in the lives of Eva and the plot of the book. Another thing I liked was the history of Arabic. I found this part of the narrative was entertained me the most because there were otherparties when I was kind of boring. For example many of the parts of politics is not really liked them. I think this is only because I'm not interested in politics and I love to read books on this subject. At the same time, I think to put this book makes it seem like a more serious literature than it is, and perhaps may be the reason some people see this book as good literature.
In conclusion, I just want to say that although I do not think that Eva Luna is a high quality book, not to say that is a terrible book. The book I remember as the worst I've read is The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman by Laurence Sterne I had to read in my first year at UBC. Not everything that happens in the book because I finished reading it, but if I remember certain things that I liked. One of the reasons I found the book enjoyable is that it had a coherent story. The book is supposedly the story of Tristram Shandy's life but is actually a series of digressions. The narrator can tell something without being distracted and then start with another story. Supposedly these digressions make the book will be comedic but I was laughing at me, I was sleeping. Every time I read it was very boring.
